Gale Hawthorne is Katniss Everdeen's best friend and hunting partner. He met her when both of their parents died in an explosion that happened in the coal mines. They met when she went hunting and saw him in the woods setting up snares. He lived in the Seam with Katniss in district twelve and he sells everything that his snares catch in the hob so he could have enough money to feed his family simce he is the head of the family because his father died. When Katniss volunteered in the reaping for Prim he held Prim back so that she wouldn't chase Katniss. While Katniss is at the hunger games he takes over the responsibilities that Katniss had so he started hunting for both his family and Katniss' family.
